Reykjavik and Rotterdam, July 19, 2017
The 9th Annual Meeting of the Scandinavian Association for Thoracic Surgery (SATS) will be held in Helsinki, Finland, next August 16 – 18, 2017 (Wednesday to Friday). The Finnish Organizing Committee, led by Professor Tatu Juvonen, have already put a lot of effort into preparing a very interesting program, both with invited lectures by internationally recognized speakers and abstract presentations.
This year SATS, together with the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), will organize for the first time a special symposium on “Medical Statistics & Scientific Writing” on the day before the start of the congress (Wednesday). This symposium is mainly aimed at young researchers and residents in cardiothoracic surgery. Our aim is to have at least 2 young participants from each of the 22 Nordic cardiothoracic centers. The lectures will include various topics, such as power calculations, multivariate analysis and propensity scoring, but also how to write abstracts and tricks to get manuscript accepted for publications. The speakers will include professors from the Nordic countries and also surgeons and scientists connected to the EACTS that have much experience with similar courses held at EACTS meetings.
We hope that you can participate both in the symposium andthe main meeting. The fee for the sympostium will only be 120 Euros and will include light refreshments. The course will start at 12:30 pm on wednesday so that participants can fly to Helsinki in the morning, and therefore only one extra hotel night is required.
Fortunately the connection between SATS and EACTS is strong and is still growing. It is vital for our profession to foster collaboration between the Nordic countries and other European countries. It is our hope that this symposium will give young colleagues the opportunity to meet peers and increase their knowledge in the field of medical statistics and scientific writing.
If you want to participate, please send an email to email@example.com. Later an invoice for the registration will be sent to you.
We look forward to see you in Helsinki.
With best regards,
Tómas Guðbjartsson, General Secretary of SATS
A. Pieter Kappetein, EACTS Secretary General
Stuart Head, EACTS Programme Director
